Silk
Silk is one of the main four textile types that I work with. Starting with spring 2020, as the Covid 19 outbreak took over our lives I've started observing around me (at my shop, among my family, friends and even myself), a crave for comfort. A sumptuous, elegant, dazzling type of comfort that caresses all senses. The imposed isolation in many countries brought negative actions and reactions but also the great advantage to some of us, of spending more quality time with ourselves. It lead to moments of calm, self indulgence, self reflection and a charge of good despite the uncertain future and sad news.
Having silk's tactile qualities in my mind, I started sketching in my home office through March and April and as soon as my suppliers could come to Vienna to present their fabrics, I knew exactly what I wish to order. I sewed until the day before the shoot, which took place on the 25th of July. These designs not only reflect Pearl's Orangery's aesthetics but they are my response to our need for graceful, comforting elegance. I am continuing to design and sew silk pieces and I will add them in this chapter with great excitement and delight.
